Seven-channel home theater systems come in various configurations, packages, sizes, and price ranges. That’s why they are in demand by everyone who wants to improve their surround sound experience. In this article, I’ve selected some of the best 7.1 home theater systems on the market that can meet the needs of different people, whether you have a very small room, a limited budget, or, conversely, you’re ready to splurge on some serious equipment. Moreover, I will answer some of the most common questions about 7.1 systems. It’s going to be interesting. Let’s go!
What is a home theater systems?
A classic home theater consists of several basic components:
- TV/projector + screen;
- video source (cable/satellite TV, Blu-ray player);
- a set of speakers (depending on the channels of the system);
- AV receiver for amplification and control of the speakers.
The 7.1 surround sound system is a set of 8 speakers: center, two front, two rear, two ceiling speakers, and a subwoofer. And for the true enjoyment of watching content in the home, where surround sound plays the most important role, adding drama and depth to the events on the screen, this configuration is the initial (minimum) to build a Dolby Atmos home theater system.
Best 7.1 Home Theater System Reviews
Before you choose and buy, consider your options and capabilities, such as room size, lifestyle, and budget. For example, if you move frequently, portable, lightweight systems with a minimum of components are at your disposal. If you have a small room to accommodate the system, you might want to consider compact-sized speaker options. Or vice versa, you’re looking for a full-fledged, stationary system of the highest quality for years. In general, whatever you choose, in my review, I have divided the selection of systems into groups, which we will consider next:
- Home theater in-a-box;
- Home theater systems with soundbars;
- Home theater systems are composed of separate parts;
- 7.1 speaker systems.
Home theater system composed of separate parts
Home theater systems composed of separate parts are high-end systems with a receiver and a set of speakers. My list is an excellent mid-priced set, as an example, and if you have a reasonable budget, it will work for you. However, you can also check out my list of the finest 7-channel receivers to better understand your options.
Denon AVR-X2700H with Klipsch 7.1 Home Theater System – best overall
In my opinion, this set, consisting of separate parts,will be optimal for many consumers. It combines the high quality of the brands presented and provides functionality and sounds worthy of the best 7.1 home theater system at a relatively reasonable price.
In terms of design, the Denon AVR-X2700H does not differ much from its predecessor, the AVR-X2600H. However, it is worth noting some fundamental changes. X2700H supports 8K resolution, but the number of HDMI inputs decreased from 8 to 6. Only one of the inputs is certified for HDMI 2.1, but the manufacturer did not forget about the other 5 as well. They all support VRR, QFT and ALLM technologies to meet the requirements of next-generation content. In addition, they are compatible with the full range of HDR standards, including HDR10/10+, HLG and Dolby Vision. Both HDMI outputs are also 2.1 certified, so lucky TV and projector owners will be able to send content to both displays at 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz. eARC (an extended version of the standard audio return channel) is also supported.
The AVR-X2700H is not as rich in 3D audio formats as more expensive models, but all the most important ones – Dolby Atmos, Atmos Height Virtualization, DTS:X and DTS Virtual:X – are available.
But the receiver supports voice control from devices equipped with Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri, as well as wireless music streaming (like the previous model, including AirPlay 2, HEOS, Spotify and Tidal).
But the main advantage of the AVR-X2700H is support for 7 channels with a power rating of 125W (6 Ohm, 1 kHz, 0.7%, 2ch) or 95 W (8 ohm, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, 0.08% 2ch) and the ability to connect an optional subwoofer, which makes it work with the Klipsch 7.1 Home Theater System so cohesive.
As for the Klipsch speaker set, in addition to its stunning look in black MDF with copper drivers, it offers high-quality sound with 300W of power for the floorstanding speakers and subwoofer with a 12″ speaker (600W at peak). Furthermore, the Klipsch speakers feature a hybrid 90×90 Tractrix Horn, Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) Titanium Tweeters, and Spun Copper Cerametallic Woofers. In addition, the four one-size speakers (rear and overhead) have a unique two-way design for more surround sound enjoyment.
The Denon AVR-X2700H with Klipsch 7.1 Home Theater System is a “little monster”! It will make the walls of your home shake and empathize with the events on the screen with a special sense of participation. Meaty bass, clean tops, and clearly audible tracks. Add a second subwoofer, and it will blow your mind!

Klipsch 7.1 Home Theater System
Home theater systems in-a-box
Sony STR-DH790 with SONY 8 Speaker System Bundle
A member of the home theater in-a-box category includes a 7.2-channel receiver (which means you can use two subwoofers) and a set of high build quality Sony speakers with good anti-resonance.
The STR-DH790 receiver gives you a power of 145W (6 Ohm, 1kHz, THD 0.9%, 1 ch), a very good parameter for such a system. And most importantly, it fully meets the needs of speakers with a 6 Ohm impedance, reaching a peak power of 145W and reproducing sound in the frequency range of 53 Hz-50kHz.
Key features of Sony speakers are Wide Dispersion Super Tweeter technology, Unique, foamed (dual-layer) mica woofer diaphragms, and High-quality crossover networks, which provide wonderfully nuanced sound. The 9.84″ subwoofer, on the other hand, has a frequency response of 28 Hz-20kHz and a maximum output power of 115W. Sure, it’s weaker than the previous set, but you’ll pay less.
As for the receiver, it’s a little simpler too. Nevertheless, you can enjoy 4K/60Hz video resolution, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision formats. Of the audio, in addition to content in Dolby Atmos, you get DTS:X as well. You can also connect old and new equipment to it, but of the wireless connections, it only has Bluetooth. That is very strange. However, Bluetooth supports the AAC codec
This surround sound system with the receiver is a good representative of its category, which gave me the pleasure of surround sound at a surprisingly good level. Also, considering the cost of the Sony STR-DH790 with SONY 8 Speaker System Bundle on the market, it has decent qualities to be on my list.

7.1 speaker systems
If you already have a receiver or amplifier, you only need a set of good speakers. So here are two great sets that can take the sound of your system to the next level.
Klipsch Synergy Black Label F-300 7.1 Home Theater System
The first representative of this category is the Klipsch Synergy Black Label F-300 7.1 Home Theater System kit because it combines the brand’s top quality, good compatibility, and excellent price. The Klipsch F-300 floorstanding speakers with 8″ woofers and auxiliary ports at the bottom of the cabinet have an incredible 150W RMS or 600W at peak. It is incredible, especially when you hear the effect.
Along with a chic black ash vinyl cabinet design with copper drivers, all speakers feature Aluminum Diaphragm Compression Driver (1″ tweeter) (delivers crystal clear high frequencies), Linear Travel Suspension (minimizes distortion), and IMG Woofers. In addition, the patented Tractrix technology directs high-frequency energy to the listener. This technology significantly reduces reverberation coming off the walls. The system’s overall frequency response is in the range 35Hz – 23KHz ± 3dB, and in addition to the floor-standing, it includes 4 bookshelf speakers, a center speaker, and a subwoofer with a 12.5″ woofer. The connection is via XLR.
A system of Klipsch speakers operates steadily and smoothly. It provides a detailed realization of the surround sound audio, giving a realistic sense of what is happening on the screen. Its capabilities and quality, combined with other high-end equipment, will create the best 7.1 home theater system for your needs.

Fluance Home Theater 7.1 Speaker System Bundle
The next 7.1 speaker system on my list is the Fluance Home Theater 7.1 Speaker System Bundle, which is similar to the previous Klipsch speaker set in many ways. Yes, it looks different, and essentially your choice will come down to taste. However, I always recommend initially hearing what you will be listening to daily, as each brand tries to respect the uniqueness of the sound. The Fluance set is a little more expensive than its competitor while offering a little less power, which you won’t really notice in the same room environment.
So, also made in black MDF, the modern design of the ELITE series speaker set is interwoven with smaller yellow speakers, making it a very striking element of your interior. The floorstanding speakers (8-Ohm) are heavy and sturdy, handle 50 – 160W, have a frequency range 49Hz – 20KHz, and feature dual 6.5″ Polymer-Coated Woofers with butyl rubber surround and 1″ Silk Dome Ferrofluid Cooled Tweeters. The subwoofer with 10″ Polypropylene with Rubber Surround driver has 45W RMS or Peak 120W power and a frequency range of 38Hz – 180Hz (±3dB).
During the listening, the system proved excellent, working smoothly and coping with the dynamics of what was happening on the screen, enhancing the audio tracks and adding realism. It’s a system worthy of you!

7.1 home theater soundbars
You have to understand that technically, this is not a home theater system because it consists of a soundbar with the center, left, and right speakers built in. All you must do is add a subwoofer and two rear speakers here (although they often come in a package). But people often use it as a replacement for “traditional” when it comes to portability, although they lose out in sound to classic systems.
Samsung HW-Q900A
And finally, we got to 7.1 home theater systems with a soundbar. And I’ll be the first to review the Samsung HW-Q900A, which consists of a soundbar and a subwoofer. Yes, you got that right; it’s great for those who move around a lot or don’t like much equipment in the house.
Among the features of this system is the ability to add Dolby Atmos wireless speakers, Q-Symphony sound (compatible with some Samsung 2020 and 2021 TVs), a built-in Alexa voice assistant, wireless pairing with iPhone (iOS 11.4 and later) streaming audio (AirPlay 2), and the ability to connect to the TV via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Of the wired connections, there is an HDMI eARC port.
With this system, which provides immersive 7-channel sound from a single soundbar, you can watch content with Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X audio and enjoy the benefits of Hi-Res Audio, Adaptive, and 3D Surround sound, and it’s also GamePro audio.
This wireless 7.1 home theater system represents the modern world for those who value comfort, portability, and compactness. Its sound quality, clarity, and fair power (for a small room) will give you surround sound without unnecessary connections and drilling the walls if you are not a demanding audiophile.

Of the connectivity features, it has an optical input, coaxial input, 3.5mm analog input, Bluetooth, and USB Type-A. In addition, it has 3 HDMI inputs with HDCP 2.3 support and video transfer up to 4K/60 Hz and HDMI output (eARC).
This system can’t be expanded; you’ll use what you have. But it will give you the pleasure of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound, especially with the wireless 10″ fully pumped subwoofer with excellent power up to 300W (30Hz).
This 7.1 home theater system can produce surrounding sound without connecting and hanging the equipment around the room. It has good quality details and sounds clean, detailed, and pretty realistic, in some ways replacing the classic version.
